Our Story

Hey Ya’ll and thanks for visiting Susie Q’s Produce and Posies.  Our story began in 2012, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  At 50 years old I had a real wakeup call, and this led us to believing we ought to get about living, really living.  Living for us meant getting after our dream of farm life – chickens, pigs, horse and a few cows, vegetables, really it means growing our own food source and controlling what goes into our food.  That year we bought our dream, 10 acres.

With the shortages and supply limitations over the last couples of years, our concerns became catalysts to cause us to really buckle down and propel us forward towards making our dream a reality.  We purchased our first high tunnel with the intention to grow vegetables for ourselves, family, friends and maybe the farmer’s market.  Thinking we would need a little something to help us stand out at the farmer’s market we thought maybe some bright colorful flowers would gain the market goers attention.  So, I took a beginning flower farming class and fell in love with flowers – a latent desire that I had all but forgotten and was buried deeply stemming as far back as early childhood; but now, oh ya’ll it is alive.

Today, we are a little closer to our dream, still not as far as we would like to be, lots of life has happened since we started this adventure - career change, managing our landscape business, and 9 beautiful grandchildren. It’s 2022, 10 years later and cancer free, thank you God, and we are making the sacrifices to enable us to achieve our lifestyle change.  We hope you will follow along with our farm life and enjoy some of the fruits of our labor of love.

Stay tuned, soon we are hoping to add pasture raised broilers and layers and some time next year we will add a pig or two and yes LOTS more flowers to our little 10-acre Anthony farm.
